• American continues to expand its trans-Atlantic gateway at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) with three new European destinations for summer 2027, making next summer its largest-ever schedule between Philadelphia and Europe.
• The airline announced today new nonstop service from PHL to Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF) and Vienna, Austria (VIE), joining previously announced service to Porto, Portugal (OPO).
• Reykjavik, Vienna and Porto join the airline’s already robust network from PHL to Europe, giving Philadelphia travelers, and those who connect through PHL, access to more than 20 European destinations.
• American will be the only U.S. airline serving VIE, building on the airline’s Central European growth, which launched this summer with new service from PHL to Prague (PRG) and Budapest, Hungary (BUD).
• Flights to OPO and VIE will be operated with the airline’s new Airbus A321XLR aircraft.

 PHILADELPHIA — American Airlines is expanding its international network at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) with new service to Porto, Portugal (OPO); Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF); and Vienna, Austria (VIE), beginning summer 2027. The airline continues to double down on PHL as its gateway to Europe, making next summer its largest trans-Atlantic network from PHL to date with service to more than 20 European destinations.

Expanded options to Europe

PHL serves 21 European destinations— more than any other hub in American’s global network. This summer, American expanded from PHL to Central Europe with new service that launched in May to Prague (PRG) and Budapest, Hungary (BUD).

New service to OPO, KEF and VIE will begin next year and open the doors to brand-new destinations in American’s global network—operated only from the airline’s PHL hub.

From charming cities to breathtaking landscapes — next summer in Europe is a must

American’s new destinations offer local travelers, as well as convenient one-stop connections, to explore the diverse charm, scenery and adventure that Europe has to offer.

• Porto, Portugal: Travelers can access the nearby Douro Valley’s stunning natural scenery and the unique charm of Porto. The added service also complements American’s existing daily year-round flights from PHL to Lisbon, Portugal (LIS).
• Reykjavik, Iceland: With “coolcations” on the rise, Iceland has quickly risen in popularity with its breathtaking landscapes coupled with lower average summer temperatures. For adventure travelers, Iceland also has unique opportunities to go snorkeling at the Silfra Fissure, hike glaciers and search the skies for incredible views of aurora borealis.
• Vienna, Austria: An iconic city with spectacular palaces, museums, classical music experiences and outdoor activities, Vienna is a must-visit destination. Plus, American will offer an extended season between PHL and VIE, flying through early January 2028, making it easier than ever to visit magical European Christmas markets.

 Tickets for new service to Porto (OPO) are now available for purchase on aa.com or through American’s mobile app. Tickets to Reykjavik (KEF) and Vienna (VIE) will be available for purchase starting August 31.

American Airlines global expansion

The new destinations from PHL are part of a larger menu of new routes and destinations for 2027 revealed by American today — further expanding the airline’s global network from Charlotte (CLT), Chicago (ORD) and New York (JFK). American will also add an additional frequency from JFK to London (LHR), where the airline continues to enhance the customer experience in partnership with British Airways.
