Philadelphia International has released the following statement welcoming the Biden administration’s announcement that fully vaccinated, non-U.S. citizens will be permitted to travel to the U.S beginning in November. The Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) greets millions of visitors to the city every year, yet the surrounding neighborhood - which includes Southwest Philadelphia and part of Delaware County - is one of the lesser known areas, even to some Philadelphia locals.

By the end of September, passengers traveling through Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), will be able to enjoy the offerings of more than 120 PHL Food & Shops concessions, with more re-openings and grand openings planned for the coming months. The atmosphere is a stark contrast to the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic, when just a handful of restaurants and shops were open in a few terminals.

September 11, 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. PHL airport and airline employees share their memories of that day and reflect on how it changed the aviation industry. 

Initial Reaction and Actions 

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) was awarded a $2.8 million Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Voluntary Airport Low Emissions (VALE) grant to purchase and install 11 pre-conditioned air (PCA) units in terminals D and E in partnership with PHL's airlines.

Paradies-Lagardere General Manager Hamid Larbi was recognized in the “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work” category of the Philadelphia International Airport’s (PHL) Employee Recognition Program. This distinction acknowledges employees who create a positive experience for guests through service and delivery while collaborating with other organizations.   

Division of Aviation (DOA) Pavement & Grounds (P&G) Semi-skilled Laborer Deborah (“Debbie”) Hill recently received a “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work” award in the inaugural round of PHL’s Airport Employee Recognition Program. This award recognizes collaboration and teamwork across organizations that results in strong service delivery and positive experiences for our passengers. 

Lynne Perry, a resident engineer in the City of Philadelphia's Division of Aviation Capital Development Group, will be honored by the Women Builders Council (WBC) as one of the organization's 2021 Outstanding Women. Perry has been with the airport for more than 15 years, starting out as a contract administrator in 2006. Among the many high-profile projects Perry has been involved with are the D/E Terminal Expansion, Service Animal Relief Areas, Engine 78 renovations, and Terminal E and Terminal B/C Core Roof projects.

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is anticipating the summer 2021 travel season to be its busiest since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
